MediaTek Helio G200: new number, old architecture, and slightly faster graphics
MediaTek Helio G200 is the senior model of the Helio 4G family, but it's not a new generation. It retains the same CPU cores as the Helio G100, a 6nm process, and the same memory class. Notable changes include an increased graphics frequency, 12-bit DCG for HDR video, and improved connectivity in weak signal conditions.
The name promises more than what has changed at the silicon level. The G200 remains a platform for budget smartphones without 5G, and its advantage over the G100 is primarily focused on graphics.
What has changed since Helio G100
The processor part hasn’t changed: two Cortex-A76 cores operate at up to 2.2 GHz, while six Cortex-A55 cores reach up to 2.0 GHz. The TSMC N6 process, LPDDR4X memory, and UFS 2.2 storage remain the same. Therefore, a significant boost in standard applications and multi-core workloads isn’t to be expected.
The frequency of the Mali-G57 MC2 has been increased from 1.0 to 1.1 GHz, which is a 10% increase. However, this doesn’t automatically translate to a 10% increase in frame rates; the architecture and number of computational units haven’t changed, and the results depend on the cooling and settings of the smartphone.
There are also two additional updates:
- A 12-bit Dual Conversion Gain for recording HDR video; MediaTek separately claims a reduction in camera power consumption due to software optimizations.
- The 4G DC SAR technology, aimed at more stable data transmission in weak signal conditions.
Both capabilities depend on the implementation in specific smartphones. The presence of a feature in the SoC does not guarantee that the manufacturer will utilize it in the camera or radio part of the device.
Performance in smartphones
In the provided results, smartphones score 719-736 points in single-core and 1861-2003 points under full-core load. This range is too small to declare one model faster than another.

These are individual results of commercial devices, not the specifications of the SoC. The outcome is influenced by firmware, case temperature, background processes, and the version of the test, so the table shows a working range, not a ranking of smartphones.
The performance is sufficient for messengers, browsers, navigation, streaming video, and moderate multitasking. Limitations are more noticeable when processing video, using heavy filters, unpacking large archives, and frequently switching between resource-intensive applications. Cortex-A76 cores still handle basic tasks, but there isn’t much headroom for future software versions.
Gaming: there is an improvement, class hasn't changed
The accelerated Mali-G57 MC2 helps in games but doesn’t elevate the G200 to the mid-range class. Competitive projects with moderate graphics run at low to medium settings. In heavy games, you will have to lower the quality and sometimes even the rendering resolution.
Sustained performance depends on the casing and manufacturer’s settings. In a thin smartphone, the increased GPU frequency is useful only as long as the cooling system maintains it without overheating. Therefore, a short test does not allow for judgments about the device's behavior during extended gaming sessions.
Camera and connectivity
The platform supports cameras up to 200 MP, but this limit alone says nothing about image quality. The sensor, optics, and image processing are more important than the number of megapixels. The 12-bit DCG is more beneficial: the camera can work with different gain levels and expand the dynamic range of video. The effect will only appear in models where the manufacturer has implemented and configured the corresponding mode.
The main compromise is the absence of 5G. The G200 comes with a Cat. 13 LTE modem, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.2. For a smartphone intended for one to two years of use, this is sufficient with good 4G coverage. If you’re buying with a longer-term outlook, a device with the G200 should be considerably cheaper than those with the Dimensity 6300 or Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, both of which have 5G modems.
Who is Helio G200 for
Helio G200 is justified in an affordable smartphone if 5G is not needed and the manufacturer has invested in a good display, battery, and sufficient memory. In such a device, it provides normal everyday speed and slightly surpasses the G100 in graphics tasks.
There’s no point in overpaying just for the G200 designation. At the same price, a smartphone with the Helio G100 will provide nearly the same CPU speed, while a device with the Dimensity 6300 or Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 will offer 5G. The G200 should be chosen based on the price and quality of the specific smartphone, rather than being seen as a full generational upgrade.
