MediaTek Dimensity 8000

MediaTek Dimensity 8000: a balanced upper-midrange SoC

Dimensity 8000 is an 8-core SoC built on TSMC N5 (5-nm class) with a CPU configuration of 4× Cortex-A78 up to 2.75 GHz + 4× Cortex-A55 and Mali-G610 MC6 graphics. The focus is on energy efficiency and stable frame rates under sustained load (final behavior depends on the device’s cooling and firmware).

Graphics & displays. Supports FHD+ panels up to 168 Hz, hardware AV1 4K decode, and offers solid headroom for high-frame-rate gaming.

Cameras & video. Imagiq 780 ISP: photos up to 200 MP, 4K HDR recording with multi-frame processing.

Connectivity & memory. 5G (Rel-16), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, quad-channel LPDDR5, and UFS 3.1 storage.

Gaming features. HyperEngine 5.0 (resource management, networking, input responsiveness).

Comparison with close competitors

  • Dimensity 8100
Similar architecture with higher CPU clocks (up to 2.85 GHz) and slightly stronger GPU performance. At the same price it’s usually preferable thanks to a small performance margin.

  • Snapdragon 870
7-nm, CPU with Cortex-A77-class cores up to 3.2 GHz, Adreno 650. Quick in short bursts, but in energy efficiency and sustained workloads it often trails the 5-nm Dimensity 8000.

  • Snapdragon 7 Gen 1
4-nm, A710/A510 clusters, Adreno 644. Newer architecture on paper, but in practice Dimensity 8000 often leads in sustained FPS. Much depends on the specific cooling solution.

  • Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2
4-nm, includes a high-performance X-core (Cortex-X2), faster GPU, and a modern modem. Typically outperforms Dimensity 8000 in peak CPU/GPU, but tends to appear in pricier devices; the 8000 remains a rational choice for price/stability.

Conclusion. Dimensity 8000 is a practical SoC for the upper-midrange: high-refresh displays, modern connectivity, and predictable gaming behavior without paying for a big X-core. Final numbers depend on the device, but the baseline balance of performance and efficiency is the platform’s key strength.
