AMD Ryzen AI 9 465: A New Processor That Barely Differs from the Ryzen AI 9 365

In the ASUS Zenbook S16, the new Ryzen AI 9 465 outperforms the Ryzen AI 9 365 by 15% in multithreaded Geekbench 6. At the same time, the processors have the same cores, clock speeds, and integrated graphics. Where did the difference come from? A significant part of the performance gain is explained by the new laptop’s higher power limits rather than by changes to the processor itself.

The Ryzen AI 9 465 was released in January 2026 as part of the Gorgon Point family. It has 10 Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores, 20 threads, Radeon 880M graphics, and a neural processing unit rated at 50 TOPS. In terms of specifications, it is almost an exact repeat of the Ryzen AI 9 365, released in 2024. Therefore, when choosing a laptop, it is more important to consider cooling, power limits, and price than the processor generation.

What Changed Compared with the Ryzen AI 9 365

The Ryzen AI 9 465 is manufactured using TSMC’s 4 nm process. It has four Zen 5 cores clocked at up to 5 GHz and six compact Zen 5c cores clocked at up to 3.3 GHz. Cache totals 10 MB of L2 and 24 MB of L3. Its nominal TDP is 28 W, with configurable power limits ranging from 15-54 W.

The main technical change concerns system memory.

Specification Ryzen AI 9 465 Ryzen AI 9 365
Family Gorgon Point Strix Point
LPDDR5X Up to 8533 MT/s Up to 8000 MT/s

The core count, maximum clock speeds, cache capacity, and Radeon 880M graphics remain unchanged. Faster memory may provide a slight boost to the integrated graphics, but a significant gain in CPU workloads should not be expected at the same power consumption.

Performance: Where the Additional 15% Came From

In Geekbench 6, the Ryzen AI 9 465 scores around 2800-2900 points in the single-core test and 14,000-14,600 points in the multithreaded test.

Laptop and processor Geekbench 6 Single Geekbench 6 Multi
ASUS Zenbook S16 UM5606GA, Ryzen AI 9 465 2834 14 562
HP OmniBook X Flip 14, Ryzen AI 9 465 2844 14 069
ASUS Zenbook S16 UM5606WA, Ryzen AI 9 365 2778 12 627
ASUS Zenbook S16, Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 2785 13 648
Acer Swift 16 AI, Core Ultra 9 288V 2797 10 972

Across the two Zenbook S16 generations, single-threaded performance differs by just 2%, while multithreaded performance is 15% higher. ASUS increased the power limits of the new model: in Performance mode, the processor can briefly consume 45 W, after which the limit drops to 35 W. The previous Zenbook had a maximum power limit of 33 W.

The impact of power consumption is clearly visible in Cinebench 2024. The same Ryzen AI 9 465 in the ASUS Zenbook S16 scored:

  • 768 points at 20 W;
  • 842 points at 28 W;
  • 930 points at 35 W.

Increasing power from 28 to 35 W delivers approximately 10% additional performance. At the same time, the new Zenbook S16 operates noticeably louder in Performance mode than its predecessor.

Thus, the difference in Geekbench reflects not only the capabilities of the processors but also the settings of the specific laptops. At the same power consumption, the Ryzen AI 9 465’s advantage will be considerably smaller.

Radeon 880M: Unchanged, but Still Playable

The integrated Radeon 880M uses the RDNA 3.5 architecture, has 12 compute units, and runs at up to 2.9 GHz. The Ryzen AI 9 365 has the same graphics solution.

Results for the ASUS Zenbook S16 with 32 GB of LPDDR5X-8533:

Test Result
3DMark Time Spy, overall score 4077
Dota 2, 1080p, High 97.8 FPS
Cyberpunk 2077, 1080p, Medium, without FSR 36.8 FPS
Baldur's Gate 3, 1080p, Medium 34.6 FPS
F1 24, 1080p, Medium 75.5 FPS

The Radeon 880M is suitable for Dota 2, popular online games, and many older titles. At 1080p with medium settings, Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3 run at around 35 FPS. For smoother gameplay, you will need to reduce the level of detail or use image upscaling.

The Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 with Radeon 890M is preferable for gaming. It has 16 compute units instead of 12 and a higher maximum clock speed.

NPU: The Same 50 TOPS

The Ryzen AI 9 465 is equipped with an XDNA 2 NPU rated at up to 50 TOPS and supports Copilot+ PC features. The Ryzen AI 9 365 has the same accelerator, so the newer model offers practically no advantage in workloads that use the NPU.

For running language models locally, the amount of available memory and support for hardware acceleration in the specific application are more important.

Laptops, Prices, and Which One to Choose

The Ryzen AI 9 465 is installed in thin laptops with different cooling systems and power limits. The ASUS Zenbook S16 UM5606GA has a 16-inch 2880 × 1800 OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, while the HP OmniBook X Flip 14 is a compact convertible with a touchscreen.

At the end of October 2026, two versions of the Zenbook S16 were available at the following prices from Best Buy in the United States:

Configuration Price
Ryzen AI 9 465, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD $1799.99
Ryzen AI 9 365, 24 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD $1699.99

The difference is only $100, while the newer model has 8 GB more RAM. At this price ratio, the Ryzen AI 9 465 is preferable even without any significant progress in the processor itself.

However, if the Zenbook S16 with the Ryzen AI 9 365 is sold for $300-400 less, the previous model becomes the better buy. For most work tasks, the performance difference does not justify such a premium.

With a budget of around $1800, it is also worth considering laptops with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and HX 470. Both processors have 12 cores and more powerful Radeon 890M graphics, although overall performance depends on cooling and power limits.

There is no reason to replace a working laptop with the Ryzen AI 9 365 with a Ryzen AI 9 465 solely for the processor. When buying a new device, the choice depends on the price and configuration. Paying an additional $100 for 8 GB of extra memory is justified, but there is no reason to pay $300-400 more for practically the same performance.
