Intel Core i5-1334U: A Decent Processor That Can Be Ruined by a Cheap Laptop

The Intel Core i5-1334U was released back in 2023, yet in 2026, it continues to appear in new laptops. The processor itself is not the issue. The specific model makes all the difference: there are well-configured work laptops on the market alongside inexpensive configurations that have reduced power limits and slow memory. As a result, two machines with the same CPU can have over a 50% difference in multithreaded performance.

At its core, the i5-1334U is based on Raptor Lake-U, featuring 10 cores and 12 threads: 2 performance (P) cores and 8 efficiency (E) cores. The maximum frequency for the P cores is 4.6 GHz, while the E cores can reach 3.4 GHz. The processor's base power is 15 watts, but in turbo mode, its power consumption can go up to 55 watts. The integrated graphics has 80 execution units (EUs), but its actual performance heavily depends on the memory configuration.

This is not a processor for heavy rendering or prolonged computations, but its capabilities are still sufficient for office work, browsing, studying, programming, and normal multitasking. The key is not to judge a laptop solely by the Core i5 label on the sticker.

The Acer Aspire Go, TravelMate P2, and HP OmniBook 5 Flip demonstrate that the Core i5-1334U can score around 8000-8800 points in Geekbench 6 Multi Core. In contrast, the Dell 15, with a score of 5278 points, appears to be a failure.

One obvious weakness of this configuration is the memory. The Dell test model used 8 GB in a single-channel mode, which could have been one reason for such a low score.

For the i5-1334U, dual-channel memory and proper power limits are more critical than a slight difference between neighboring CPU models. A poorly configured setup can significantly reduce processor performance.

Virtually the Same as Core i5-1335U

The difference between the Core i5-1334U and Core i5-1335U is minimal.

Both have 10 cores, 12 threads, a frequency of up to 4.6 GHz, 12 MB of L3 cache, a base power of 15 watts, and integrated graphics with 80 EUs. The main formal distinction is memory support: the i5-1334U is designed for LPDDR5/x up to 5200 MT/s, while the i5-1335U supports LPDDR5/x up to 6400 MT/s.

It is not worth overpaying for a laptop just for the 1335U designation. Cooling, memory configuration, and the laptop's price are much more important. On average, the i5-1335U is slightly faster, but the difference between two laptops with the i5-1334U can end up being more significant.

Integrated Graphics Heavily Depends on Memory

The integrated graphics with 80 EUs is suitable for video playback, everyday work, and lightweight gaming, but it heavily relies on memory bandwidth.

Single-channel memory significantly reduces bandwidth. As a result, both CPU and graphical performance suffer.

Therefore, a cheap laptop with the i5-1334U and a single memory module should be scrutinized especially carefully.

Should You Buy a Laptop with Core i5-1334U in 2026?

New laptops with this processor are still being sold. The Acer Aspire Go 15 with an i5-1334U starts around $519, while the Dell 15 DC15250 starts at approximately $555.

For $500-$550, a laptop with the i5-1334U can still be a reasonable purchase, especially if the memory operates in dual-channel mode or a second module can be added cheaply.

At around $600, there are already too many competitors to choose a laptop solely based on the Core i5 label.

And at $700 and above, the Core i5-1334U looks less attractive. In this price range, laptops with Ryzen 7 8840HS and Core Ultra 5 125H, which are significantly faster, can be found. There is simply no point in paying the same amount for an old Raptor Lake-U.

Conclusion

The Core i5-1334U is already old, but its performance is still adequate for regular use. In a good laptop, it can achieve around 8000-8800 points in Geekbench 6 Multi Core and manages everyday tasks well.

However, purchasing such a laptop based solely on the processor name is not advisable. Memory, power limits, and cooling directly impact the final speed.

Up to $550, the Core i5-1334U is still a viable option. At $700, it is no longer a deal but an overpayment for an old platform.
