Unisoc T820 in 2026: Is It Worth Buying a Smartphone with This Chip?

The Unisoc T820 appeared in late 2022 and gained more visibility after the release of affordable gaming smartphones like the nubia Neo. The T820 features four Cortex-A76 cores, Mali-G57 MP4 graphics, and supports 5G and UFS 3.1. The chip is manufactured using a 6nm process technology. In its generation, the T820 ranked higher than many budget SoCs. By 2026, it is no longer new, so the main consideration should be the smartphone's price.

Four Cortex-A76 Instead of a Usual Pair

The processing part of the T820 is arranged unusually for an affordable mobile chip. One Cortex-A76 core operates at a frequency of up to 2.7 GHz, three additional Cortex-A76 cores reach up to 2.3 GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores run at up to 2.1 GHz.

The four Cortex-A76 cores provide the T820 with decent multi-threaded performance, enabling it to outperform the Helio G99 in many CPU tests. However, in single-core performance, the T820 falls short compared to modern SoCs with Cortex-A7xx cores.

The T820 is manufactured using TSMC's 6nm process technology. Under prolonged gaming loads, it does get noticeable heat, but this is not unusual for a chip in this class.

Mali-G57 MP4 and Gaming

The graphics are handled by the Mali-G57 in an MP4 configuration.

For less demanding and competitive games, the Mali-G57 MP4 offers adequate performance. In Genshin Impact and other heavy titles, you often have to lower the graphics settings, and a stable high FPS isn't always available.

Benchmarks of Real Devices

The T820 has been used in a small number of commercial smartphones. The table includes two devices on this platform: the nubia Neo 5G and nubia Neo 2 5G.

Device Geekbench 6 Single Geekbench 6 Multi 3DMark Wild Life
ZTE nubia Neo 5G 885 2,321 2,003
ZTE nubia Neo 2 5G 893 2,267 1,981

The results of the two smartphones are close: the maximum variance in these tests is just a few percent.

In these devices, the T820 scores around 880-900 points in Geekbench 6 Single-Core and approximately 2,300 points in Multi-Core. This performance is sufficient for the interface, browsing, and everyday applications, but in demanding tasks, the capabilities of the T820 are already limited.

Support for UFS 3.1

The fast storage accelerates the installation and launch of applications, loading games, and working with large files.

The nubia Neo 2 is equipped with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage, meaning storage does not become the weak point of the device.

Hidden Context of the Series

The main commercial smartphones using the T820 belong to the nubia Neo line.

Smartphone SoC Generation
nubia Neo 5G Unisoc T820 2023
nubia Neo 2 5G Unisoc T820 2024
nubia Neo 3 5G Unisoc T8300 2025
nubia Neo 3 GT 5G Unisoc T9100 2025

The first nubia Neo and Neo 2 used the same T820. In the third generation, the manufacturer switched to the newer T8300 and T9100.

By 2026, the T820 already belongs to the previous generation of Unisoc platforms. You mainly find the chip in older nubia models available for sale.

Should You Buy a Smartphone with T820 Now

In August 2026, the new nubia Neo 2 5G with 8/256 GB is available in European markets for around €199. The Neo 2 features a 120Hz display, UFS 3.1, 5G, stereo speakers, and gaming triggers.

Next-generation models are only slightly more expensive. The nubia Neo 3 with T8300 is sold for about €227, while the more powerful Neo 3 GT with T9100 is available starting at around €229.

At a price of about €200, the Neo 2 is too close to next-generation models. At €150-170, the price difference justifies choosing the older T820, especially if a large display, 5G, and gaming buttons are needed, while heavy mobile gaming is not a priority.

Conclusion

A few years after its release, the performance of the Unisoc T820 is sufficient for typical tasks. For browsing, video, messaging, and less demanding games, the chip’s power is adequate. However, in heavy games and resource-intensive applications, the age of the platform is becoming apparent.

The main issue with the T820 in 2026 is not its performance but the pricing of devices based on it. Priced around €150-170, the T820 is justified with a noticeable discount. At around €200, models with newer SoCs provide more value for the same money.
