Laptops Are in Different Price Categories
The price difference between laptops is also enormous.
Models with Ryzen 5 40 belong to the budget segment. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 with 8 GB of RAM can be found for about €475, while the HP OmniBook 3 with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD starts at around €580-600.
Core Ultra 7 258V is used in much more expensive laptops. The ASUS Zenbook S 14 with 32 GB of RAM costs about €1,400-1,700 depending on the configuration and store. Dell XPS 13 and HP OmniBook Ultra Flip also fall into this category.
This results in nearly a threefold price difference between certain models, so comparing processors solely based on benchmarks is not enough. In the more expensive class, the buyer receives not only a fast CPU: typically, a better screen, build quality, battery life, SSD, and set of interfaces.
This is where the price of Ryzen 5 40 makes sense. For €500-600, its weak performance is still justifiable. However, if a laptop with this processor approaches the price of models with newer Ryzen 5 or Core processors, its appeal quickly diminishes.
