MediaTek Dimensity 7300 vs Helio G99: Where the Difference is Particularly Great
The Helio G99 is still found in many inexpensive 4G smartphones, but next to the Dimensity 7300, it noticeably falls short in CPU power, graphics, and features. The difference is not limited to 5G support: the Dimensity 7300 has a more powerful CPU and GPU, uses a 4nm manufacturing process, and supports LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1.
For browsing, messaging, video, and less demanding games, the Helio G99 is still adequate. However, at a comparable price point, choosing it over the Dimensity 7300 is becoming increasingly hard to justify.
Dimensity 7300 vs Helio G99: Key Differences
| Dimensity 7300 | Helio G99 | |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing Process | 4 nm | 6 nm |
| Performance Cores | 4 × Cortex-A78 up to 2.5 GHz | 2 × Cortex-A76 up to 2.2 GHz |
| Power-efficient Cores | 4 × Cortex-A55 | 6 × Cortex-A55 up to 2.0 GHz |
| GPU | Mali-G615 MC2 | Mali-G57 MC2 |
| RAM | LPDDR4X / LPDDR5 | LPDDR4X |
| Storage | UFS 3.1 | UFS 2.2 |
| Mobile Network | 5G | 4G |
| Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi 6E | Wi-Fi 5 |
| Main Camera | Up to 200 MP | Up to 108 MP |
| Video Recording | Up to 4K 30 FPS | Up to 2K 30 FPS |
The main difference in CPU performance lies in the four Cortex-A78 cores in the Dimensity 7300 compared to two Cortex-A76 cores in the Helio G99. This advantage is reflected not just in benchmarks: the Dimensity 7300 handles multitasking, photo processing, and other workloads that benefit from multiple cores more efficiently.
Geekbench and AnTuTu: Advantage Reaches 72%
In synthetic tests, the gap is too wide to consider these SoCs close in performance.
| Test | Dimensity 7300 | Helio G99 | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Geekbench 6 Single-Core | 1064 | 733 | +45% |
| Geekbench 6 Multi-Core | 2939 | 1994 | +47% |
| AnTuTu 10 | 726 869 | 423 470 | +72% |
| AiTuTu 3 | 103 295 | 41 867 | +147% |
In Geekbench 6, the Dimensity 7300 is about 45% faster in single-core performance and 47% faster when using all cores. Such a significant advantage is noticeable beyond benchmarks, especially in multitasking and CPU-heavy tasks.
In AnTuTu, the difference reaches 72%: approximately 727,000 points for the Dimensity 7300 compared to 423,000 for the Helio G99.
Benchmark Results for Smartphones with Dimensity 7300 and Helio G99
The results of specific smartphones are useful as they consider the impact of cooling, firmware, and manufacturer settings.
| Benchmark | Device with Dimensity 7300 | Result | Device with Helio G99 | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme OpenGL | Doogee V40 Pro | 5416 | Unihertz Tank 2 Pro | 2780 |
| 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme Vulkan | Nothing CMF Phone 1 | 3989 | Realme 11 4G | 2626 |
| 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme Unlimited | Nothing CMF Phone 1 | 5283 | Realme 10 | 2784 |
| 3DMark Sling Shot Unlimited | Motorola Edge 50 Neo | 6723 | Motorola Moto G72 | 3787 |
| 3DMark Steel Nomad Light | Blackview Active 12 Pro | 361 | Infinix Zero 30 4G | 147 |
In selected graphical tests, devices with Dimensity 7300 score approximately 1.5 to 2.5 times higher. There is variability among smartphones, but the overall picture remains: the Mali-G615 MC2 is significantly more powerful than the Mali-G57 MC2.
Gaming: Dimensity 7300 is Significantly Faster
The Helio G99 is still suitable for Mobile Legends, World of Tanks Blitz, and other relatively undemanding games.
In heavier titles, however, it is often necessary to lower the graphics settings, and frame rate stability depends more on the scene and the phone's cooling.
The graphical capabilities of the Dimensity 7300 are noticeably faster, as confirmed by smartphone results in 3DMark. In demanding games, this allows for higher settings or more stable FPS at comparable image quality.
That said, results can vary by device. The same Dimensity 7300 may behave differently under sustained load depending on whether it is in a thin body or a bulky rugged smartphone.
For occasional gaming sessions, the Helio G99 is still adequate. But for regular gaming use, the Dimensity 7300 is clearly the preferable choice.
4nm vs 6nm
The Helio G99 is manufactured on TSMC's 6nm process, while the Dimensity 7300 utilizes the more modern 4nm process.
This allows the Dimensity 7300 to combine higher performance with a newer manufacturing process. However, comparing the battery life of smartphones solely based on the SoC is not sufficient.
Battery capacity, display, modem, firmware, and background processes can influence operational time more significantly than the processor itself.
5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and UFS 3.1
The Helio G99 is limited to 4G networks, Wi-Fi 5, and UFS 2.2 storage. For a budget smartphone, this is still sufficient, especially in areas where 5G is hardly used.
The Dimensity 7300 supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and UFS 3.1. The faster storage also provides an edge in app and file performance.
Therefore, the difference between the platforms persists even where 5G support is irrelevant.
Cameras and Video: Dimensity 7300 Offers More Features
The Helio G99 supports sensors up to 108 MP and video recording up to 2K at 30 frames per second.
The Dimensity 7300 is designed for cameras up to 200 MP and supports 4K HDR recording. Its more advanced ISP supports additional image processing algorithms, noise reduction, and stabilization.
The SoC itself does not guarantee better photo quality: much depends on the sensor, optics, and manufacturer's algorithms. However, the technical ceiling for the camera is significantly higher with the Dimensity 7300.
When Helio G99 is Still Worth Considering
The primary argument for the Helio G99 is price.
If a smartphone with it is significantly cheaper and is primarily needed for browsing, messaging, video, navigation, and light gaming, paying extra may not be necessary.
In the budget segment, it may be wiser to spend the price difference on a better display, camera, battery, or more memory.
What’s Better: Dimensity 7300 or Helio G99
MediaTek Dimensity 7300 confidently outperforms Helio G99 in CPU, graphics, and features.
It is approximately 45-47% faster in Geekbench 6 and 72% faster in AnTuTu 10, and in some graphical tests, devices with Dimensity 7300 score more than twice as high.
Additionally, the Dimensity 7300 supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, UFS 3.1, 200 MP cameras, and 4K recording.
The Helio G99 remains relevant in truly cheap 4G smartphones. However, if the price difference is small, choosing it becomes difficult to justify: the Dimensity 7300 is significantly faster and far more modern in terms of features.
