MediaTek Dimensity 7400X

MediaTek Dimensity 7400X

MediaTek Dimensity 7400X is a modern 4 nm 5G mid-range chip aimed at compact flip phones and slim smartphones, where the balance of performance, battery life, and camera capabilities is critical. In terms of specifications, it is close to the Dimensity 7400 but adds support for dual displays in foldable phones, more aggressive power-saving algorithms, and a stronger focus on gaming.

Architecture and process technology

Dimensity 7400X is built on TSMC's 4 nm (N4) process, which has become the standard for current mid-range and upper mid-range chips.

CPU configuration:

  • 4 performance Arm Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.6 GHz

  • 4 efficiency Arm Cortex-A55 cores up to 2.0 GHz

This setup is designed for typical smartphone workloads: heavy tasks are handled by the fast cores, while background and simple apps run on the power-efficient ones.

CPU: day-to-day performance

The 4+4 eight-core layout provides comfortable performance in everyday tasks:

  • fast app launches

  • smooth UI operation at display refresh rates up to 120 Hz

  • confident multitasking with messengers, browser, and camera

Thanks to the 4 nm process, the chip keeps thermal output at a reasonable level, which is especially important for thin bodies and foldable devices where the cooling system is limited.

GPU and gaming

Graphics are handled by the Arm Mali-G615 MC2, running at high frequencies and delivering a solid level of performance for the mid-range segment.

The chip supports:

  • WFHD+ displays up to 120 Hz

  • Full HD+ displays up to 144 Hz

Gaming is handled by the MediaTek HyperEngine Gaming Technology suite:

  • MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0 (MAGT 3.0) dynamically adjusts load and frame rate based on temperature and battery level

  • Network Observation System (NOS) monitors network quality and helps reduce lag and FPS drops

In practice this gives:

  • stable average FPS in popular online games at medium and high settings

  • noticeably lower heating compared to older 6 nm chips

  • a decent gaming experience even in thin flip phones

It does not reach flagship levels in graphics, so in the heaviest titles you will need to lower settings for maximum comfort.

AI

Dimensity 7400X uses the 6th generation MediaTek NPU 655. Its main tasks are:

  • accelerating AI camera features

  • real-time image and video processing

  • neural network based effects and filters

  • speeding up some system and user AI features offline

The new NPU is more efficient than the previous generation, so AI workloads run faster and consume less power, which is important for long shooting sessions, photo processing, and background tasks.

Camera

Image processing is handled by the MediaTek Imagiq 950 ISP. It supports:

  • camera sensors up to 200 MP

  • advanced noise reduction algorithms

  • 12-bit HDR for photos

  • 4K HDR video recording at up to 30 frames per second

  • extended dynamic range and modern HDR modes

This gives smartphones based on Dimensity 7400X a solid margin in photo and video quality for its class. The main limitation is the lack of 4K60, which some competitors already offer.

Memory and storage

Dimensity 7400X supports:

  • LPDDR5 and LPDDR4X RAM (speeds up to 6400 Mbit/s)

  • UFS 2.2 and UFS 3.1 storage

Manufacturers can combine these options depending on price and positioning:

  • more affordable models - LPDDR4X + UFS 2.2

  • more advanced models - LPDDR5 + UFS 3.1 for maximum system responsiveness and fast game and app launches.

Displays

In terms of displays, Dimensity 7400X is designed for quality mid-range and upper mid-range panels:

  • WFHD+ up to 120 Hz

  • FHD+ up to 144 Hz

  • support for modern HDR modes and image enhancements through MediaTek technologies

A separate plus for flip form factors is native dual display support. The chip can work simultaneously with the main inner screen and the outer secondary screen, optimizing refresh rate and power consumption.

Connectivity and battery life

Dimensity 7400X is equipped with a 5G modem that supports:

  • 5G NR Sub-6 in SA and NSA modes

  • carrier aggregation (3CC) with high peak data rates

  • modern technologies to improve signal quality and reduce latency

Additionally it supports:

  • Wi-Fi 6E with 2x2 configuration

  • Bluetooth 5.4

  • a set of navigation systems: GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS and others

Power-saving algorithms in the modem and radio block help save battery life in real 5G scenarios, when a smartphone frequently switches between different signal levels and network types.

Where Dimensity 7400X is already used

As of late 2025, Dimensity 7400X is used, for example, in the following devices:

  • Motorola Razr 60

  • Motorola Razr 2025

In both cases these are flip phones with a main display around 6.9 inches and an external secondary screen. Here Dimensity 7400X shows its strengths: dual display support, power efficiency, and enough performance for smooth UI and gaming in a compact body.

Conclusion

MediaTek Dimensity 7400X is a well-balanced 4 nm 5G mid-range chip with a focus on:

  • confident everyday performance thanks to the 4x Cortex-A78 + 4x Cortex-A55 setup

  • decent gaming potential from Mali-G615 MC2 and HyperEngine technologies with moderate heating

  • strong camera capabilities provided by Imagiq 950 and support for sensors up to 200 MP

  • modern connectivity: 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 and a wide range of navigation services

  • dual display support, which makes it especially attractive for affordable flip phones

Weak points:

  • the architecture is still based on A78/A55 cores, without the latest Cortex A7xx generation

  • video recording is limited to 4K30

  • graphics are not at flagship level, so you need to reduce settings for the heaviest games

Overall, Dimensity 7400X looks like a practical solution for mass-market 5G smartphones and foldable models: not a flagship, but an efficient and capable chip that covers the main user scenarios and offers a solid margin for gaming and camera features in its price segment.
