MediaTek Helio G100 vs Helio G99: There’s Almost Nothing to Compare

MediaTek Helio G100 and Helio G99 are nearly the same 4G chip. There’s no new level of performance, different graphics, or noticeable leap in energy efficiency. The Helio G100 can be seen as a fresher re-release of the Helio G99 for new budget smartphones.

The main difference is the camera. Helio G100 supports sensors up to 200 MP, whereas Helio G99 is limited to 108 MP. For manufacturers, this is a convenient way to release new models with a more impressive number in the specifications without changing the platform itself.

In other respects, the difference is minimal. Both chips use a similar CPU configuration, the same Mali-G57 MC2 graphics, support LPDDR4X memory, UFS 2.2 storage, Full HD+ displays up to 120 Hz, and operate only in 4G networks.

Therefore, the choice between Helio G100 and Helio G99 should be made not based on the processor name but rather the smartphone itself: display, memory, battery, charging, camera, and price. If the models are similarly priced, the Helio G100 appears a bit more logical due to its fresher positioning and support for 200 MP. If a smartphone with Helio G99 is significantly cheaper, there’s almost no point in overpaying for the G100.

The conclusion is simple: Helio G100 is not a real upgrade to Helio G99, but rather the same successful 4G chip with updated camera support.
